The art of brushing your hair
Brushing your hair 100 times is something from the era of my grandmother and like a lot of old myths there is definitely some truth to it.
Why: when you brush the hair you stimulate the scalp including your sebaceous glands which are small ducts in the skin that secretes the bodies natural lubricant sebum. when stimulated through brushing the oil is distributed down the hair shaft nourishing the hair strand. Under the surface the blood flow to the scalp is being stimulated which sends more blood to the nourishing dermal papilla of the hair follicle stimulating hair growth.
How: you want to be sure that your hair is completely dry you don't want to use a brush on wet hair and risk breakage. If you suffer from dry scalp you can apply a light oil to your scalp before you begin brushing to aid your body in supplying moisture to the hair strand. Always be sure that you are seated comfortably as to help you relax this increases blood flow and hair growth, to increase relaxation and stimulation you can perform a brief scalp massage. Always begin brushing at the scalp area to the ends this is going in the direction of the protective cuticle layer of the hair strand. Going in the opposite direction will cause severe cuticle damage and lead to hair breakage. You can choose to finish with a scalp massage or not. Allow your self a few minutes before getting up as to avoid dizziness.
